L4–L5–S1 disc bulge? Read this carefully.
The lower lumbar spine carries the highest load in your entire body.
Especially the L4–L5 and L5–S1 segments.
These two levels absorb:
• Body weight
• Bending stress
• Twisting forces
• Sitting compression
• Lifting load
Between each vertebra is a disc.
The disc has:
• A soft inner nucleus (nucleus pulposus)
• A tough outer ring (annulus fibrosus)
When repetitive pressure builds up, the outer ring weakens.
The inner material pushes outward.
That is called a disc bulge.
Now here’s what most people don’t understand:
A disc bulge does NOT automatically mean severe damage.
Pain usually happens because:
• Intradiscal pressure increases
• Nearby nerve roots get irritated
• Protective muscle spasm develops
• Segmental instability occurs
• Inflammation sensitizes the area
At L4–L5 and L5–S1, this may cause:
• Lower back pain
• Pain radiating to glutes
• Sciatica down the leg
• Numbness or tingling
• Pain while sitting
• Stiffness after rest
So how does spinal decompression help?
Spinal decompression therapy works by:
✔ Creating controlled mechanical traction
✔ Reducing pressure inside the disc
✔ Improving disc hydration
✔ Enhancing nutrient diffusion
✔ Reducing nerve root compression
✔ Allowing surrounding muscles to relax
Lower pressure = reduced inflammation = reduced pain.
But here’s the key:
Decompression is not magic.
Long-term improvement requires:
• Core stabilization
• Glute strengthening
• Spinal mobility work
• Load correction
• Posture modification
Disc health improves when movement improves.
If you have L4–L5–S1 pain,
don’t panic when you read your MRI.
Understand it first.
Save this for future reference.
