Not all shoulder pain comes from the shoulder joint.
Sometimes the problem starts in the way your shoulder blade moves.
In this case, the patient had scapular dyskinesis meaning the shoulder blade (scapula) was not moving in its normal rhythm and position during arm movement.
When this happens, muscles around the scapula especially the rhomboids, trapezius, and surrounding stabilizers become tight, overworked, and develop painful trigger points.
So instead of just treating the pain area, the physiotherapist addressed the root muscle dysfunction.
✔ Step 1: Cupping Therapy
Cupping was used first to release fascial tightness and improve local blood circulation, helping the surrounding muscles relax.
✔ Step 2: Dry Needling
After the tissues were relaxed, dry needling was applied along the rhomboid trigger points.
When the needle hits an active trigger point, you may see a muscle twitch response — which is a sign that the tight muscle fibers are releasing.
This helps to
• reduce muscle tension
• restore proper scapular movement
• decrease pain
• improve shoulder mechanics
When the scapula starts moving correctly again, the entire shoulder complex works more efficiently.
Pain relief isn’t just about the painful spot.
It’s about restoring the body’s natural movement patterns.
If you're experiencing persistent shoulder blade pain, stiffness, or movement issues, a proper physiotherapy assessment can identify the real cause.
